Fariground Tents

We used a 20’x20’ tent at the Alaska State Fair in Palmer as an Information House where the American Red Cross, business, and agency volunteers provided information and literature on emergency preparedness, first aid, fire safety, home safety, vehicle safety, recreational safety, and other key health and safety topics.
We also used a 10’x10’ tent as the Neighbor’s House where children exiting the Fire & Safety House would go to report a fire using a simulated 911 device.
These tents, along with the banquet tables used inside them, were donated to Alaska Youth Shooting Sports camp on June 4, 2008.
Safety Wheel
The Wheel of Safety shown in the tent picture above and described in the Fire & Safety House section was built by Steve Barak, former DSC President Niki Pereira’s father. The wheel was given to Niki on May 21, 2008, for use with Fire Department education.
Cash Contributions
Denali Safety Council contributed $21,000 to Alaska Youth Shooting Sports, a firearm safety camp sponsored by the NRA, on February 26, 2008. We also contributed $2,000 to the King Career Center for construction of ten picnic tables for the camp. This money was proceeds from OSHA safety training classes and contributions from corporate sponsors for the Community Outreach program.
